Purpose: To provide participants with information to evaluate and treat patients suffering from lymphedema.

Objectives

At the conclusion of this program, participants will be able to:

  • Identify basic types of lymphedema as primary or secondary
  • Discuss contra-indications to treatment
  • Review intervention with documentation and tips for coding/modifications and materials/products
  • Demonstrate proper basic manual edema mobilization techniques regarding arm and leg edemas
  • Apply basic bandaging techniques to lower extremity and foot
  • Apply basic bandaging techniques to upper extremity, hand, head, and neck

Target Audience

Physical Therapists, Occupational Therapists, Physical Therapists Assistants, Occupational Therapy Assistants and Registered Nurses

Fee

$140 for non-members; $70 for supplies for AHEC members

Credit

Licensed Nurses: Upstate AHEC is an approved provider of continuing nursing education by The South Carolina Nurses Association, an accredited approver by the American Nurses Credentialing Center’s Commission on Accreditation.

Upon successful completion of this program, attendees will receive 10 contact hours.

Occupational Therapists: This program has been approved for 12 contact hours of continuing education for Occupational Therapists.  SC AHEC has presumptive approval as a provider of continuing education for Occupational Therapists by the SC Board of Examiners for Occupational Therapy.

Physical Therapists: This program has been approved for 12 contact hours of continuing education by SC AHEC under its accreditation by the SC Department of Labor, Licensing and Regulation Board of Examiners for Physical Therapy.

Successful completion of the program requires attendance for at least 90 percent of the course and a completed evaluation by the participant.

Registration & Fee: MUST be received by October 24 so supplies can be ordered.

Special Instructions: Participants should wear a tank top/sports bra and shorts.
